In
the summer of 1969, Yogi Bhajan’s students invited him
to New Mexico where young people were gathering to celebrate the
summer solstice. The days were spent doing Kundalini Yoga, drumming,
playing athletic games, and doing school bus races. In 1970 3HO
was founded and Summer Solstice Sadhana became a 3HO-sponsored
event. Back then, to maintain the highest vibrations, attendees
practiced silence during the entire event, speaking only to chant,
sing, and praise the One Creator. The greatest highlight of the
event was the daily evening music, when everyone danced and sang
to their hearts’ content. In 1971, Yogi Bhajan became the
Mahan Tantric and White Tantric Yoga became a regular feature.
Those first Tantric courses were 10 days long! By 1974 White
Tantric Yoga had been shortened to three days. Although a few
adjustments
have been made over time, the early days created the foundation
for Summer Solstice Sadhana. Today, over 1000 men and women from
around the world attend annually. |
