Spiritual Teacher
by Yogi Bhajan
You don’t have any idea what a Spiritual Teacher is. None of you has an idea. India developed for five thousand years to come to an understanding of a Spiritual Teacher and they lost it too. It is gone. It is an antique thing...

On this day every year, we remember Yogi Bhajan and celebrate his life. Beginning September 28, come together each evening to chant Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru for 31 minutes.
Gather in each other's homes for this meditation and a cozy lungar (communal free kitchen) or potluck.

Guru Ram Das Birthday Anniversary
11 days of meditations
September 29 – October 9
The birthday of Guru Ram Das, the Lord of Miracles and spiritual guide of Yogi Bhajan, is October 9. The 11 days leading up to his birthday is a very powerful time for fulfillment of our prayers and meditations – a time of blessing.
Beginning September 29, 11 days before the birthday, we come together each evening in each other's homes to chant Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 11 to 31 minutes, or longer. On October 9, we celebrate with a special Sadhana (spiritual practice) in the Amrit Vela (early morning of 3 a.m. - 6 a.m.) of 2.5 hours by reciting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru. In many communities it is our tradition to have a Gurdwara (place of worship) on Guru Ram Das's birthday and bring a "wish-and-a-dish" lungar (communal free kitchen). Yogi Bhajan has described this occasion as a unique time to have our prayers and wishes fulfilled.

One Prayer by Pritpal Singh
In "One Prayer" we experience East Indian instruments along with the unlikely combination of American Roots musical instruments. There are three tracks of mantras as well as three tracks of selections of Gurbani or Shabad Guru. Both of these sources create strong Naad – the transforming power of sacred sound.

Kundalini Yoga Community in Taiwan
Taiwan: Kundalini Yoga is growing fast!
Taiwan is about to begin its first-ever Teacher Training program in January 2009 with Sunder Singh. Currently, there are just a handful of teachers sharing Kundalini Yoga in Taiwan. Among them are the newest addition and member, Abnashi Kaur, who teaches full time; Satwant Kaur, who has taught in Taiwan for 10 years at Yogiji’s recommendation; and Siri Anand Kaur, who after teaching in Taiwan for 7 years is now relocating to Thailand. Both Satwant Kaur and Abnashi Kaur teach at the largest yoga center chain in Asia – True Yoga. Visit their blog in Chinese and for non-Mandarin speakers check out the “New” section for some fun pictures!
Getting Kundalini Yoga into Mainstream Taiwan
Recently, Puma Yoga gear chose Kundalini Yoga teacher Abnashi Kaur as their model for a spread at sportlifestyle.com.tw. This and other big events, like “New Year’s Eve – Kundalini Yoga Night” in front of the tallest building in the world (Taipei 101) and “Yogi Bhajan’s Birthday Celebration” have had a hand in promoting Kundalini Yoga in Taiwan.
What’s on the Horizon for Taiwan
A Kundalini Yoga Center, a book about Kundalini Yoga written in Mandarin and much more!

Message from the 3HO Chief Executive Officer
Sat Nam,
In 2002 I was a participant in the Master’s Touch course at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM. Master’s Touch was what is known now as the Level 1 Teacher Training Intensive. There were 75 of us from around the world and we had the great pleasure of many evening lectures with Yogi Bhajan during that time. This was the second time in my life to be in the same room with him.
Although I have not had a lot of in-person time with Yogi Bhajan, my relationship with him is very strong and takes place in other realms. He comes through in my meditations, visits me in my dreams and is right by my side every day. I know that he is one of the most dynamic spiritual teachers who is guiding me and protecting me, that our relationship will last this lifetime and beyond and that our souls have been connected for centuries, perhaps longer.
Yogi Bhajan introduced us to one of his teachers, Guru Ram Das. I just love Guru Ram Das. How can you not? He is The Lord of Miracles, the Guru of compassion, love and service. He represents so much of what Yogi Bhajan inspires us to be as Kundalini Yoga Teachers: “When you become a Teacher, serve with the light and warmth for all, like sunshine.”
This month gives us the opportunity to come together in our communities or to take the time by ourselves to meditate on these two great teachers and give thanks for the impact their service has had on our lives and on the lives of all of those we come in contact with and all the generations to come. Sat Nam.
In gratitude,
Bhajan Kaur

A Message from the 3HO Events Manager Anand Singh
People in our 3HO Global Community often ask me, “Are you a teacher?” My answer is "yes". I am KRI certified but I haven’t tuned-in to teach at a yoga center lately, I teach at 3HO. As your Events Manager I am honored to serve by facilitating the participant creation of the Solstice Sadhana. In co-creating Solstice with you I am teaching and learning through my own act of service. Through Karma Yoga I am honored and blessed to connect with each of you. Our teamwork is integral to our opening up and elevating each other. If your intention is connecting with the energy of the Universe, you can get there through yoga, drumming, dancing, chopping onions or scrubbing toilets – you get the idea. On this path I’m a teacher, you’re a teacher, the service itself is a teacher. Creating Solstice together puts us in the role of both student and teacher. I look forward to seeing you at our Winter Solstice Sadhana Celebration.

Healing the Body, Mind and Soul
A Teacher’s Identity
• A teacher gives you experience. A preacher gives you philosophy.
• A teacher is the personal honor of God Himself.
• A teacher is an institution for help, service, and raising people’s consciousness, not an individual.
• A teacher must go through calamity with a radiant smile.
• A teacher deals with another person with a humble imperial majesty.
• A teacher appears in utmost grace, he or she doesn’t try to appeal to the Earth.
• A teacher is straight, and lives straight.
• A teacher has a width of heart and deep understanding.
• A teacher answers to the call of duty with grace and compassion.
• As a teacher you must look smart, be smart, talk straight; never be right or wrong; always be neutral. Speak through your neutral mind.
• You can learn from a teacher by questioning, or you can learn from a teacher’s blessing.
• Serve all, and all shall serve you.
• When confronted by negativity, take attitude, then change attitude.

Sacred Eats
Sage Squash Pizza
This is a perfect delicious dish for the autumn and a fun way to use a butternut squash.
Ingredients:
• 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and thinly sliced
• 1 large Vidalia (sweet) onion, thinly sliced
• Fresh sage (1/3 ounce), chopped finely
• Fresh rosemary (1/3 ounce), picked whole off the sprig
• 3 cloves of garlic, chopped or mashed
• Olive oil
• Feta cheese
• Parmesan cheese
• Pizza crust, 1 large or 2 small (either make your own, or I buy gluten-free pizza crust from Whole Foods)
• Salt and pepper
Cooking instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375ºF
2. Combine sliced squash, onions, sage, rosemary, salt and pepper in a baking dish. Drizzle olive oil over the top and mix all ingredients together. Cover with tin foil or bake in a dish with tight-fitting lid.
3. Bake for about 1 hour or until squash is tender and onions begin to caramelize.
4. Mix together some olive oil (about 3 tbsp) with minced garlic, salt and pepper and brush pizza crust with this mixture
5. Sprinkle a layer of Parmesan on bottom of crust
6. Remove baking concoction from the oven & layer over the crust
7. Top with some feta cheese
8. Bake at 375ºF for about 15 minutes
“The Cook’s Tips”
If you are not a garlic lover you can easily eliminate or reduce the amount of garlic you use. Sometimes if I don’t have Parmesan cheese I will just use feta. You can use dry herbs if you don’t have fresh but I find it is so much tastier with fresh herbs. Also I prefer to bake the squash in one of those clay dishes with a tight fitting lid - this really lets the veggies cook in their own juices. If I am in a rush I turn the oven up a little higher but don’t exceed 425ºF and make sure you watch the pizza so it doesn’t burn! Enjoy with friends or family with a salad, soup or yummy cranberry sauce!

Breaking bread together is a blessed and sacred act. To honor that consciousness, the 3HO team in Espanola is taking turns cooking up a recipe to share with the rest of the team. Yum! If you have created a wonderful vegetarian dish and would like to see it featured in our e-newsletter or on our website please send it to Livk@3HO.org. Be sure to include who the credit goes to!
Kundalini Yoga
Exercise Set for Electromagnetic Frequency
1) Sit in Easy Pose. Fully extend the arms out to the sides with the fingers stretched back from the palm and tensed like claws. The entire hand should be rigid and taut, like a lion’s paw. Alternately cross your wrists over your head and return your arms out to your sides, parallel to the ground (A). Keep the lion’s paw tight. Move powerfully and rhythmically. Begin a breath of fire, coordinating one inhale-exhale with each movement. Continue for 9 minutes and then without stopping, stick your tongue all the way out and continue for 15 seconds more (B). Then inhale and hold the arms up at 60º for 15 seconds. Then exhale. Repeat. Inhale and hold again for 30 seconds. Exhale and relax by singing the song “Nobility” from the heart for 3 – 4 minutes or sit quietly breathing long and gentle for 3 – 4 minutes.
This exercise works on the electromagnetic frequency of the brain. The hand position pressurizes all the fingertips which control the brain and its functions. The lymph and nervous systems are tuned up and the powerful breath of fire stimulates the pituitary gland and causes the pineal gland to change the frequency of the radiance of your magnetic field.
