Meditation - The Way to God
by Yogi Bhajan

Sometimes we feel our lives are normal. We make money, we have children, we are very happy. Then why meditate? Well, basically a man as a human being has no defense mechanism except a meditative mind. You have to be intuitive. You don’t have claws, you don’t have hooves, you can’t protect yourself. Cause will have an effect. And life is cause and effect...

Kundalini Yoga Community in Russia

On Summer Solstice, June 21, 2008 we truly joined as family around the world through our participation in the worldwide Solstice meditation. In 3HO communities throughout Russia – Tula, Moscow and Karelia – people gathered together locally to celebrate Summer Solstice and enjoy the blessing of being together and practicing Kundalini Yoga.

Russia is quickly growing and expanding making Kundalini Yoga available to those who have an interest and longing for these ancient teachings. Kundalini Yoga Teachers in Moscow have committed to doing Amrit Vela Sadhana together daily at a newly developing yoga center. To participate in a global project started in Russia where you can “share with us and the rest of the global sangat your stories of Yogi Bhajan, your personal spiritual journey living in Ashrams, Kundalini Yoga festivals and Solstices,” see lighttravel.org.

“Let it be the Travel of Light from one part of the world to all parts of the world, from one heart to all hearts. And let this travel be light.”

Please send us your 3HO and Kundalini Yoga related photos so that we can share them with the global community. Send them to Photo@3HO.org. Terms of Use

Message from the 3HO Chief Executive Officer

Sat Nam,

I am waking up on another Sunday morning...the difference this time is that I am in my new home. I moved over the weekend and was reminded just how challenging moving is. I am grateful to all of my friends who helped me move; I don’t know what I would have done without them.

I have been in my new space for just 2 days, and I am enjoying it even more than where I was before. The house supports the same sustainable living as my previous home. I am on the same property, only 100 feet from where I was living. The change is that I am in a smaller house, one that suits me better.

I experienced a moment in this month that I would like to share with you. I was at the Española local coffee house, the Oasis. I was alone, standing at the condiment table adding cream to my Earl Grey tea, when Jimi Hendrix began serenading the customers through the sound system. An 8-year-old (or so) boy, with the longest mullet I have ever seen, appeared by my side and started to play his air guitar along with Jimi. It is times like this that I wish I carried a video camera with me always to capture these moments so that they can be more than just a visual in my brain.

This boy made my day. He was jumping around, swinging his head and big hair, jamming really hard with his air guitar. Soon after he began, he was joined by another boy with an identical mullet, either his brother or his friend, so the show was now a double feature.

When the song finished, they ran over to the computers, and I stood there alone with a very big smile on my face and in my heart, deeply appreciating the expression of freedom that I had just witnessed and puzzling over the fact that the terrible 1980s mullet is still alive (but that’s just my impression of the hairstyle).

So here’s to change, which is always taking place, even when we can’t see it. To life’s unexpected moments and the pleasures it brings when we stop to take the time to notice. And to our friends, who help us move and keep us going even when we want to give up.

In memory of Jimi Hendrix and the air guitar performance to The Wind Cries Mary.

Blessings and peace,
Bhajan Kaur

Healing the Body, Mind and Soul

Navigating the Inner Spaces of the Mind

Four of Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga practice deal with navigating the meditator through the inner space of the mind. They are pratyahar, dharana, dhyan and samadhi. In Kundalini Yoga, we recognize the integrative nature of these states. Emphasis is on mastery through identifying and utilizing these states.

Pratyahar To control and synchronize the mind to the Infinite. It is the science of finding the nucleus of every finite, which is Infinite.

Dharana Concentration. Consistent penetration of thought, consistent projectivity. Holding the mind within a center of consciousness or on an object.

Dhyan Meditation. Deep merger into the object of concentration, which causes a flow of thought waves, uninterrupted and continuous, to which the meditator does not react. One is aware of the thoughts, but not involved with them.

Samadhi Total identification with spirit. The deep experience of “Me and God, God and Me, are One.”

Meditation for Peace

On September 21, 2008 the world will celebrate an International Day of Peace. The United Nations dedicates this special day to non-violence and invites all governments and citizens of the world to support this peace initiative through education, meditation, and peaceful action.

3HO is a Non-Governmental Organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and extends this invitation specifically to our worldwide Kundalini Yoga Community. As 3HO is committed to the excellence of the individual and the elevation of humanity through the technologies of Kundalini Yoga, meditation, and conscious living, we urge all communities, yoga centers, families, and individuals to dedicate September 21 to peace and healing through education, meditation, and prayer.

We invite your creativity. Consider planning an event at your yoga center, or dedicate your sadhana or yoga class to peace, or visit your child’s school to include the participation of children in this worldwide event.
